This booklet was recently brought to the attention of management by a warehouse employee who found it hidden inside a crate of other books we had acquired from Wing Wang Publishing. This small, unstapled booklet was wedged behind a false wall in the crate and could not be found on the inventory sheet, and so it was brought to management, who turned it over to our book scout team to investigate. Unbeknownst to us at the time, we had actually unearthed a piece of history that has been considered lost by cryptid hunters and fans of George Gouf.
After diligent research and multiple dead-ends while researching, including tracking down Gouf's grandson, we learned that this was his final booklet, printed in 1998 by Gouf Publishing, his personal imprint that he ran out of his mother's garage.
Years later, the rights to all of Gouf's books were folded into Wing Wang Publishing, who had the bad habit of buying up publishing catalogs and then never republishing them or even archiving the manuscripts for later printing.
The booklet covers an expedition to Louisiana that Gouf undertook with fellow cryptid investigator Harold Handey to chase down reports of a creature locals called the Waxaxi. Though it is mostly written and illustrated by Handey, he seems to have waived his portion of proceeds and signed over the rights to Gouf, who then published this as his final booklet before retiring from cryptid hunting in 1999 and passing away in 2003.
The booklet was given to our graphic design team, who scanned it, cleaned up the pages, and preserved the layout. What we are offering here is the closest representation of the original book as possible, with the small addition of brightly colored covers and our logo on the back.
We printed a very small test run of these to gauge public interest. If readers respond, we will consider a larger run.
We have also ordered that the inside of all crates in our warehouse be searched. We will update you if any more Gouf booklets are found.
